Many newborns are dairy sensitive so giving them breast milk is not at all wise. How to know whether the child has breast milk intolerance? Well if after feed, your child shows the symptoms like diarrhea or the skin allergy, or respiratory problems, then milk allergy should be considered and expert advice should be sought. The crux of this article is to give you an idea about the safest possible alternative if your child shows any of such symptoms. Rice milk formula is very safe and nourishing for your baby but you should note that it lacks certain key nutrients which we will add on in the recipe.
This recipe is a blend of ingredients that will make the child healthy and grow faster and will ensure good development of your child. For this recipe you will need Rice milk, Black strap molasses as a source of iron and vitamins, cod liver oil for vitamin A, flax oil or hemp oil as an essential fatty acid; because rice milk does not contain the adequate fat, brown rice protein powder, pediatravite liquid infant multivitamin, d-drops and infant probiotic powder.
For making this amazing formula, take 4 cups rice milk, ½ tablespoon molasses,1/4 teaspoon cod liver oil, 1-2 tablespoon flax oil or hemp oil, 2-4 table spoons brown rice protein powder, 1 table spoon pediatravite liquid infant multivitamin, 1 drop of d-drops and ¼ the teaspoon infant Probiotic powder. Mix all the ingredients well. And store it in a glass jar. Use when child needs it. Discard the formula after 48 hours because child might get food poisoning.
We used the above additional ingredients because the rice formula alone is not adequate for the child and it lacks the nutrients which are necessary for the growth and development of the brain and body and bones of the child. So it is also very important to monitor the growth and development of the child on the standard growth charts which compares the growth of your child to the standard. More over one also has to be extra careful when using the homemade formulas because child might not be getting what is called age appropriate, so consulting a nutritionist is always sensible.
Incase your child has the rice allergy or is allergic to any of the above ingredients don’t use this recipe. A doctor might recommend rice thickened formula to those children who have gastro esophageal reflux disease. What actually happens in this disease is the gastric contents reflux back into the esophagus because the sphincter between the stomach and esophagus of the child cannot maintain the good tone. So child develops the symptoms like vomiting immediately after feeding and excessive crying after feeding which might indicate heart burn. So rice thickened recipes make the formula really thick enough to regurgitate back very easily. In either case consultation with a doctor is warranted because the health of your smaller baby should be your top priority.
